On July 22, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held a new Express Entry draw targeting skilled professionals in healthcare and social services. This invitation round marks another major step in Canada’s plan to attract qualified talent and address critical workforce shortages in its healthcare system.

🔍 What Does This Mean?

This draw was part of the category-based selection, where Canada invites candidates based on specific sectors. In this case, 37 priority occupations were targeted, including:

  • Registered nurses and psychiatric nurses

  • General practitioners and specialist physicians

  • Medical lab technologists

  • Psychologists

  • Physiotherapists

  • Social and community workers

  • Veterinarians

  • Occupational therapists
    …and many more.

📉 Lower CRS Cut-off Score

One of the key highlights of this draw was the CRS cut-off score dropping to 475, down 29 points compared to the previous healthcare draw in June. This opens the door for many more candidates who were just below the previous threshold.

A tie-breaking rule was also applied: only candidates who submitted their profiles before March 13, 2025, at 13:08:29 UTC and had a score of 475 were invited. This shows how important it is to submit your Express Entry profile early.

📊 What’s the Competition Like?

There are currently more than 256,000 candidates in the Express Entry pool. Over 78,000 candidates have scores between 451–500, making the competition intense. However, this targeted draw is a positive sign for those in priority sectors like healthcare and social services.

✅ How to Improve Your Chances

At Di Leone Group, we recommend the following strategies to improve your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply:

  1. Boost your language scores (IELTS, CELPIP).

  2. Gain additional work experience, especially in Canada if possible.

  3. Apply for a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) to gain up to 600 additional CRS points.

  4. Get your education credentials assessed by an IRCC-approved agency.

  5. Submit your Express Entry profile early, since timing matters under tie-breaking rules.

🕐 What Happens After You Receive an Invitation?

Once you receive an ITA, you have 60 days to submit your complete application for permanent residence. IRCC processes 80% of applications within six months, offering a fast-track to a new life in Canada.
